James Kingi

Project & Design Leader

As Project and Design Leader with DEM Fire, James is a skilled multitasker.

He oversees the delivery of major and minor projects for sprinkler fitting, fire protection and alarm systems which involves tracking technical data, design requirements and budgets plus procurement and labour coordination.

While he enjoys the variety of his role, there’s one thing that really stands out at DEM Fire. “It’s the team environment.

I like the social aspect of a good team. I enjoy working in a group and getting things done, and what stands out here is the level of integrity across the entire building.”

A fitting background

James has come to DEM Fire as an old hand in fire protection, and with a background in sprinkler fitting and design. “I went through an apprenticeship many years ago in sprinkler fitting. I was on the tools for 10 or 11 years before starting my own business, which I ran for 6 years. And I’ve also worked as a designer.”

It means he’s perfectly positioned to deliver comprehensive fire and essential services for clients of all sizes and across all sectors.

Enjoying a challenge

With two small children at home, James is likely to be spending time with his family when not at work… or playing guitar… or getting in some exercise with cross training, soccer or the gym. So, he’s rarely idle.

“I don’t allow myself free time,” he laughs. “And that’s because I love a challenge. I enjoy environments that are constantly changing and where there’s always more to learn.” And it’s something he’s definitely found at DEM Fire. “It is a good environment here,” he says, “It’s good people always trying to do a good job.”

What Fire Compliance Changes Mean for Annual Fire Statements

As we recently reported, legislation changes now require all staff that conduct Annual Fire Statements to gain accreditation as ‘competent fire safety practitioners’ (CFSPs). As of 1 July, only CFSPs can now legally conduct the work previously covered by Fire Safety Assessment (FSA).
