Inspection and Testing Supervisor

As Inspection and Testing Supervisor with DEM Fire, Chris heads a team who monitor and maintain fire systems equipment in large industrial and commercial buildings, nursing homes, shopping centres, offices, hotels and high rise residential apartment buildings.

“We test all equipment that relates to fire systems, from fire extinguishers to special hazard gas suppression systems, and we repair when needed to ensure they are all working properly. Whether we are talking about a simple fire hose reel or a complex fire detection or sprinkler system, it’s all crucial to ensure a fully functioning fire system.”

Chris is a highly experienced electrician, and he’s held a number of facility management roles, making him ideally suited to DEM Fire. “I previously worked in maintenance management where I supervised all trades including electricians, plumbers and carpenters. I love being hands on and I love technology, and I really enjoy supervising in that technical area.”

For Chris, a job well done involves detailed planning. “Basically, there are a million things that can go wrong – from site access to COVID – so what I love is when all my planning for the testing goes right. A well planned day is a very happy day.”

Outside of work, COVID has put a stop to another passion – fine dining with his fiancé. ‘We were working our way through a list of restaurants, but it’s on hold for a while.”

Family is important to Chris, and it is one reason he enjoys the family atmosphere at DEM Fire. “It’s a pretty large business but still family orientated. Basically, I take pride in my own work and in helping others… and here you can take comfort in knowing that there’s always support if ever needed, to get the job done.”

What Fire Compliance Changes Mean for Annual Fire Statements

As we recently reported, legislation changes now require all staff that conduct Annual Fire Statements to gain accreditation as ‘competent fire safety practitioners’ (CFSPs). As of 1 July, only CFSPs can now legally conduct the work previously covered by Fire Safety Assessment (FSA). Here’s why that’s good news for the industry, for quality assurance…and for property owners.
