Fire Safety Assessor (CFSP)

As a Fire Safety Assessor with DEM Fire, Anthony provides endorsements of fire safety measures for Annual Fire Safety Statements.

His role involves visiting client sites to assess safety measures, referencing Australian Standards and tracking performance measures. And it’s a role that draws on years of experience in fire protection and essential services.

My background is electrical, and I worked as an electrician for several years. The company I was with was taken over and staff were given the chance to transition to a partner company that specialised in fire technology.”

That gave Anthony the opportunity to move into a new career as a fire alarm technician.“I then studied fire engineering and fire technology. And I’ve now been in the fire industry for 25 years… and with DEM Fire for 13 years.”

There’s one thing that Anthony especially enjoys about his position at DEM Fire – and that’s the challenge. “I love that even after all these years I’m still learning all the time and having to keep up with industry changes. It’s always engaging… and it’s rewarding when you achieve things that you set out to do.”

Outside work, Anthony loves bunkering down to watch a soccer match or heading on holidays with family, “although it might be a while until the next one.”

The family atmosphere at work is also an asset. “One of the best things about DEM Fire is the people. There are a lot of really good people including management and other staff. We’re serious about work and work hard to achieve our goals, but it’s also a very enjoyable group to work with.”

What Fire Compliance Changes Mean for Annual Fire Statements

As we recently reported, legislation changes now require all staff that conduct Annual Fire Statements to gain accreditation as ‘competent fire safety practitioners’ (CFSPs). As of 1 July, only CFSPs can now legally conduct the work previously covered by Fire Safety Assessment (FSA). Here’s why that’s good news for the industry, for quality assurance…and for property owners.
